Galileo Galilei was born in Pisa in 1564. Galileo was also Italian. Galileo went to the school of the Jesuit Monastery of Santa Maria di Vallombrosa. His nickname was "The Wrangler." Galileos father wanted him to be a cloth merchant, because they were such a poor family. Vincenzo Galilei was Galileos father. Galileo started studying medicine at the age of 17. Galileo was also into science and astronomy. One year Galileo built a machine using air to measure heat. He called it a thermoscope. Galileo developed the law of the pendulum and the hydrostatic balance. Galileo proved that Copernicus was right because he saw that the Earth went around the sun. He had been called "The Father of Modern Science." Galileo was blinded by an infection in 1637, four years after being imprisoned in his house for the rest of his life. He died in 1642. I found out that Galileo lived 357 years ago. Sir Isaac Newton used Galileos book that Galileo published to discover the laws of force, motion, and gravity. Galileo had got on his way to success by being interested in astronomy, science, and physics. I think Galileo will be remembered about 10 or more years from now. Galileos impact on the world is very important because if he didnt find this stuff out, we might still be learning about space and science. Since Galileo died before realizing success, his reactions and feelings probably would have been like: he would throw a party and well, he would feel like someone who had just won ten million dollars. Galileo was a risk taker by challenging a nearly two thousand year old theory of Aristotles. |
